Background

The story of the Beatles!! What could be more better for Capitol records to come out with than the story of the Beatles rise from obscurity to fame. This is exactly what Capitol records did to continue stoking the voracious Beatles market in the U.S. This album is mentioned here because it is next in the line of releases for Capitol's Beatles albums.

Not a true Beatles album, Capitol records decided to release an interview album about the Beatles. They got the idea from Vee Jay records and their handling of such interview albums. With narration from L.A disc jockeys John Babcock, Roger Christain and Al Wiman, The Beatles Story is a narrative look at the Beatles rise to fame including individual biographies on John, Paul, George, and Ringo as well as interviews and commentary. Included on the album is a snippet of the Beatles doing Twist and Shout from their 1964 Hollywood Bowl concert, as well as a Beatle Medley of previously released songs which are not the full-length versions.

This two-record set sold very well upon release until Beatles fans discovered that there were no brand new Beatles songs, or for that matter, no complete Beatles songs whatsoever. Coupled with a two-record price tag, and The Beatles Story didn't quite make the top of any charts, with Billboard and Cashbox placing it in the Top Ten, and Record World just missing the Top Ten.
