Twist And Shout b/w

There's A Place

Background

After finally scoring with a Beatles single (the re-released Please Please Me), Vee Jay released another pair of tunes from the album Introducing The Beatles. Only this time, they released it on another one of Vee Jay's labels Tollie records.

Twist And Shout, the Isley Brothers song, was sung by John Lennon in a raw sort of way that he later said his vocal chords had been permanently strained. All three charts were in agreement of the single's top five status with Cash Box and Record World giving Twist And Shout the number one slot. Meanwhile, Billboard could only raise the single as high as number two because four other Beatles singles were making up the top five on their singles charts. Also, Billboard charted the B-side There's A Place, reaching as high as number seventy-four.
