Background
The song Please Please Me first appeared as a single almost a year earlier on February 25, 1963 with Ask Me Why as the B-side. The first time, the single did nothing on the record charts. However, by this time Beatlemania was rising to fever pitch, and so Vee Jay opted to re-release Please Please Me again, along with another song as the B-side From Me To You. This time, the results were much better, with the single at #3 on all three charts, and on Billboard, sandwiched in between four other Beatles singles making up the whole top five. For the B-side, Billboard and Record World charted From Me To You with it peaking at number 41 on Billboard and number 46 on Record World.
Like Please Please Me, From Me To You also was an A-side to a previous Beatles single (b/w Thank You Girl). When Capitol Records acquired the Vee Jay Beatles songs in 1964, Capitol then put both Please Please Me and Ask Me Why onto their album The Early Beatles.
