Background
When Capitol Records refused to release Beatles albums and singles in America, Brian Epstein offered The Beatles to other record labels with no success. That is, until Chicago based Vee Jay record stepped in and said they would take a chance on this new British quartet.
Please Please Me backed with Ask Me Why was Vee Jay records first Beatles single. While this single was topping the British charts, in America, the single didn't go anywhere, with radio airplay almost non existant, and the record charts also reflected this as well.
