Background
For this first Beatles single of 1966, Capitol records chose to pull from the U.K. version of Rubber Soul two songs not released here on the album. The A-side Nowhere Man quickly went up the charts like most other Beatles singles before it, and gave the Beatles another number one on Record World. Billboard and Cash Box, however, were just a bit unsure of it being a number one, so Billboard stalled it at number three, while Cash Box put the song at number two. As for the B-side What Goes On, only Billboard charted What Goes On raising it as high as number eighty-one.
