The Long And Winding Road

b/w For You Blue

Background

As the follow-up to the Let It Be single, these next two songs were picked from the Let It Be movie by Allen Klein, who was overseeing the Beatles affairs (except for Paul's).

With the Let It Be album, criticism has been divided as to whether producer Phil Spector, who was brought in at the request of John Lennon, salvaged or destroyed the album. The Long and Winding Road is one such debate, with it's strings and female background voices. Nonetheless, this single (along with Harrison's skiffle rocker For You Blue) serves as the last official Beatles single to be released in America until 1976. For the record, in a span of seven years, the Beatles had 23 number one singles on Record World, 22 number one singles on Cash Box, and 20 number one singles on Billboard.
