One week after Capitol records released the single A Hard Day's Night, they attempted to further cash in on the movie soundtrack by releasing two additional singles from the movie on the same day.

Despite the heavy radio airplay, the single I'll Cry Instead didn't do that well, making it into the top thirty of all three record charts. It seems that Capitol had dumped too much product onto the market at one time. That, and record buyers already owning the soundtrack album, made for this single not to reach number one. The B-side I'm Happy Just To Dance With You was charted by Billboard, and just got into the top 100 climbing as high as number 95.
